How EcomPL Works

A complete seller-side analysis workflow designed around real marketplace files

What is EcomPL?

EcomPL is an offline desktop software application that processes marketplace order files and payment/settlement files from Meesho, Flipkart, Amazon, and Myntra. It generates detailed profitability reports by combining marketplace transaction data with seller-provided actual product costs.

The EcomPL Analysis Workflow

1

Download Marketplace Order Data

Log in to your seller account on your marketplace (Meesho, Flipkart, Amazon, or Myntra) and download your order file. This contains detailed information about each order placed on your store.

2

Download Marketplace Payment/Settlement Data

Download your payment or settlement file from the marketplace seller dashboard. This shows the actual payments you received from the marketplace for your sales.

3

Import/Process the Files into EcomPL

Import both the order file and payment/settlement file into EcomPL desktop software. The software processes these marketplace-generated files to understand your transactions.

4

EcomPL Generates SKU Cost Input File

After processing the marketplace files, EcomPL automatically generates a SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) cost input file. This file lists the products sold so you can provide your actual cost information.

5

Enter Actual Product Cost

In the SKU cost input file, enter the actual cost at which you purchased or manufactured each product. This is important because genuine profitability requires considering your actual product cost rather than only looking at marketplace revenue.

6

EcomPL Combines Marketplace Data with Product Costs

Provide the completed cost information to EcomPL. The software combines marketplace order data, payment/settlement data, SKU information, and seller-provided actual product costs to create a complete dataset.

7

EcomPL Processes the Complete Dataset

EcomPL processes the combined dataset, applying the appropriate financial calculations, marketplace charge analysis, and deductions to determine actual profitability.

8

EcomPL Generates Detailed Reports

EcomPL generates comprehensive output reports including summary, order-wise data, SKU-wise data, missing payment identification, GST-related information, and additional seller insights.

Product Cost Methodology

One of EcomPL's important concepts is that the marketplace selling price is not the same as actual seller profit.

EcomPL allows you to provide the actual product cost at which the product was purchased or manufactured. This is important because genuine profitability requires considering actual product cost rather than simply looking at marketplace revenue.

The generated SKU list allows you to enter the relevant actual product cost. EcomPL then combines:

  • Marketplace order data
  • Payment/settlement data
  • SKU information
  • Seller-provided actual product cost

...to calculate genuine profitability.

Accuracy & Limitations

EcomPL has been developed and refined around real seller workflows, with extensive seller testing and feedback. It is designed to provide detailed and consistent marketplace profitability analysis based on the input files and cost information supplied by the seller.

Output accuracy depends on:

  • Correctness of marketplace input files
  • Completeness of payment files
  • Correct product/SKU cost information
  • Marketplace file format compatibility
  • Marketplace policies and deduction structures
  • Correct interpretation of transaction data

How Profit is Calculated

Essentially, EcomPL's profitability analysis accounts for:

Marketplace Revenue
+ Reimbursements
− Marketplace Fees
− Shipping-related Costs
− Return-related Costs
− RTO-related Costs
− Other Applicable Deductions
− Actual Product Cost
= Seller Profit/Loss

Note: This is a conceptual representation. The actual calculation may vary based on marketplace-specific rules and the specific charges and deductions applied by each marketplace.
